Relearning My Name

‘Relearning My Name’ is a part-drama, part-documentary piece about the racial prejudices students endure in the UK school system. The script is based on real experiences and incorporates verbatim interviews with students and teachers – the narrator’s monologue explores her internal conflict with her identity and seeks to challenge the behaviours and aggressions felt in the classroom.
The short docu-drama was co-written with Batool Zaidi. The piece was commissioned for the BBC New Creatives scheme, supported by Arts Council England and BBC Arts, and delivered by Calling the Shots.
