Writing

Cassie Wicks is a writer interested in writing for plays, musical theatre, radio, film, TV and interactive fiction. Her work blends sharply ironic wit with “authentically sincere” heart. Her influences include Taika Waititi, Rachel Bloom, Isobel McArthur and StarKid Productions.

From the age of twelve, Cassie honed her passion for theatre and writing in youth theatre programmes at The Mayflower Theatre, The Point and the Berry Theatre. At just sixteen, Cassie was selected by the BBC New Creatives programme to co-write her radio docu-drama Relearning My Name.

She read an English Literature undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, and developed an academic and creative interest in adaptation and reimagining classic literature. As a student, she was president of the St Hilda’s Drama Society and acted as a writer, director, dramaturg, script editor and producer for student productions.

She developed a passion for film and television, getting involved with City Eye Young Filmmakers in her teenage years. Wanting to develop her skills in all four major scriptwriting forms, Cassie undertook a Masters in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where she is developing a feature film script.

Interested in Musical Theatre from a young age, Cassie has staged two musicals – Professor Where at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2024, and Moderate Expectations with Oxford University Light Entertainment Society in 2025. For both, she also contributed songs, both as an independent songwriter and working with composers as a lyricist. She took a module on this medium during her postgraduate studies.
